Reservation & Relaxations

Scheduled Caste (SC) 15.0% Relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks, valid certificate required.
Scheduled Tribe (ST) 7.5% Relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks, valid certificate required.
Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL) 27.0% Applicable to OBC Non-Creamy Layer as per Central Government list.
Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) 10.0% Income and asset certificate issued by authorized government officer.
Persons with Disabilities (PwD) 5.0% (Horizontal) Reservation across all categories for candidates with 40% or more disability.

Deprivation Points Scheme

To promote regional and gender parity, JNU awards **Deprivation Points** to eligible candidates. These points are added directly to the entrance score of candidates who completed their qualifying examinations from backward districts (classified into Quartile 1 & Quartile 2) or belong to specific gender categories.

Regional Quartiles
  • Quartile 1 Districts: 6 points awarded for candidates who studied in these highly backward regions.
  • Quartile 2 Districts: 4 points awarded for candidates who studied in moderately backward regions.
Gender & Transgender
  • Female Candidates: 5 points awarded to all female applicants from non-creamy layer categories.
  • Transgender Candidates: 5 points awarded to support transgender inclusion in higher studies.
